Kentucky's Hidden Treasure
The River Pirates of the early 1800's loved Crittenden
County and neighboring Cave-In-Rock. The Cherokees, Chickasaws
and Shawnees contested the area, and it was the route of the infamous
"Trail of Tears." The county was contested by Union
and Confederate forces during the Civil War, and it was part of
the area of the Black Patch War, America's least-known farmer's
rebellion. Jesse and Frank James used the backroads as a hideout,
a great place to get away from it all - including posses!
Convenient to the Land Between the Lakes (Kentucky's
second major attraction after the Kentucky Derby and Derby Museum),
it's a land of rolling hills, horse ranches and stables, and a
thriving Amish community. The local produce is so fresh it needs
a spanking!
It's considered a Paducah area attraction, and
we're rapidly gaining fame for Kentucky antiques, Amish quilts,
and international tourism. We also boast any cuisine you want,
as long as it's fried chicken or barbecue!
It's true that Britney Spears and Paris Hilton
have never been here, but Naomi and Wynonna Judd are welcome back
anytime!
